FORT WORTH TOPS LINCOLN 5-1 IN EXHIBITION FINALE

FORT WORTH, Texas — The Saltdogs could never quite gain their footing offensively as the Fort Worth Cats defeated Lincoln 5-1 in the club’s final exhibition game at LaGrave Field Monday night.

Trailing by a run heading into the last of the seventh inning, Jon Nelson hit a mammoth home run out to left to even the score at 1-1.

The Cats pulled away soon after, scoring two runs in each of the next two innings to take a 5-1 lead that they would not relinquish.

Alex Maestri got the start for the ‘Dogs, going four innings, allowing one run on six hits while striking out four and walking one.  Garrett Sherrill impressed in relief, tossing two innings, giving up just one hit while fanning four.

With the loss, Lincoln closes out the exhibition schedule with a 4-1 record.
