HAWKE, RIOS LEAD ‘DOGS IN BLOWOUT VICTORY

LINCOLN – Phil Hawke and Kevin Rios each launched three-run homers as the Saltdogs cruised to a 9-3 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes in front of 2,641 fans at Haymarket Park Wednesday night.

Hawke spanked a three-run long ball to open the game’s scoring in the top of the first inning.  Rios hit an opposite field three-run shot to highlight Lincoln’s five-run fourth inning.

Alex Maestri (2-3) pitched six strong innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out seven and walking three to earn the win.  Dustin Glant (1-3) lasted four frames, allowing eight earned on ten hits to suffer the loss.

Hawke finished the night 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI.  Pat Trettel, Curt Smith, Blake Gailen and Brandon Jones all registered multi hit nights as well, as the ‘Dogs collected 13 hits in total.

Nick Schreiber and PJ Zocchi each threw a scoreless inning in relief.

The teams meet again Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. for the finale of the four-game series.  Lindsay Gulin (1-5, 7.03) is scheduled to start for the Saltdogs against Ace Walker (1-2, 4.13) for Winnipeg.
