DOGS STRIKE FOR SIX IN EIGHTH TO COMEBACK ON SAINTS

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Dogs strike for six. Brandon Jones and Pat Trettel led the comeback charge in the eighth inning off a former National League All-Star as the Saltdogs edged the St. Paul Saints 9-7 in front of 3,568 fans at Midway Stadium Monday night.

Trettel stroked a two-run triple to center field to even the score at 5-5. Four batters later Jones launched a three-run homer down the left field line to extend Lincoln’s lead to 9-5.

P.J. Zocchi worked around a Jones error in the bottom of the ninth to seal the victory, and earn his eighth save.

Nick Schreiber (3-0) pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit in relief to earn the win. Former N.L. All-Star and saves leader Chad Cordero (0-1) allowed four runs on three hits in 2/3 of an inning to suffer the loss.

The Saints sprung for four two-out runs off ‘Dogs starter Alex Maestri in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 5-2 lead.

Trettel finished the night 2-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBI. Curt Smith went 3-for-5 with a double, a run and RBI.
